We are half way through the first month of the year already. It baffles me how fast time moves! I feel like I haven’t really done much and yet it is already the 15th.
Typically people do their resolutions or goals on New Years, but I’ve actually been preoccupied with some other things so I’m just getting to it now. I’m not a huge fan of New Years resolutions because I don’t think there should be a designated time of the year to set and work hard on goals. It should be a year round thing, but it definitely doesn’t always work that way. With that said, I do like to set a few loose goals that I can look back at throughout the year to keep me motivated. Some years are better than others when it comes to being motivated, and some years I don’t even set any goals. This year I do want to make a short list of things I’d like to work towards or accomplish to make 2020 the best year yet!
Rejuvenate my business
From early 2018 to early 2019 my business was really starting to take off. I had learned some new skills that were allowing me to work from anywhere and I loved it! I still love it and I really enjoy being my own boss and being able to work as a creative. One of my major goals, like 5 year goals, is to be able to travel extensively and work from anywhere in the world. That’s why I started taking courses in graphic design and web design and why I continue to improve those skills. A lot of my client base was from Nashville though and I moved in May which really threw me off. I lost a lot of the contacts that I was getting clients from so I went back to square one. One of my goals for this year is to build my client base back up and find new outlets to advertise my services.
I can’t talk about my business and not actually talk about it, so if you want to check out my work or are in need of design or photography work I’d love to talk with you more! You can find more information on my website, www.runacreativeco.com
Be the healthiest version of myself
I’ve already made quite a bit of progress in improving my health over the past couple years, but I’m not quite where I’d like to be yet. So a goal is to continue on with the hard work and hopefully reach a point where I feel really good physically and mentally.
Visit somewhere i’ve never been
I was very lucky last year to have visited multiple places I had never been. New Orleans, a place I had dreamt of visiting for years, and Wyoming and Oregon when I was staying in South Dakota. This year I’d like to visit a couple more! There are so many places I’d like to go. Europe and Scandinavia of course, but I’m not thinking that will happen this year. My fingers are still crossed though! In the likely event that it will not, there are a lot of places in North America I have yet to visit. I’d love to explore more of the east coast like Maine and Massachusetts or go farther north up to Canada. I have a passport, I might as well use it!
Along with visiting somewhere new, I want to start doing solo travel this year. I figure I should start small with day and weekend trips around the midwest and work my way up to a major solo trip! So I’ll probably hit up a new place in the midwest by myself this year.
I will actually be taking a trip in a couple weeks to Fort Meyers, Florida. I’ve been there once before so it doesn’t count for this goal, but it’s still travel and that’s all that matters!
Stop the self sabotage
Whether it is in my business or personal life, sometimes I just get in my own dang way. I’d really like to stop that altogether or at least improve this year. I don’t want to hold myself back from meeting new people, trying new things, learning new skills, or growing my business. I shouldn’t avoid those things just because it will throw me out of my comfort zone. While living in Nashville I did everything alone and was out my comfort zone like 75% of the time. Since moving back to Iowa I’ve retreated back into my introverted side a little too much for my liking. Having my family here has made that too easy for me to do, which I love my family, but I’d like to get out of that rut this year!
Those were some of the big things that I’m looking forward to accomplishing this year. Of course I have a lot more smaller goals on my to do list, but these are some ones that have really been on my mind lately.
Do you participate in New Years resolutions or goal setting? If so, what are some of your goals for 2020?
