life update: I have no idea what chapter i’m on. I’ve lost the table of contents.
Well at this point I think I could probably win an award for the worst blogger ever. It has been a couple years of a blog post here or there, saying I’m going to do better, and then another couple months between posts. Life always seems to find a way to budge its way in and block my path to achieving my consistent blogger goals. Alright, let’s be real, I can also be kind of lazy and not want to spend even more time on my computer after working on it all day. AND, sometimes I honestly just don’t have anything interesting to write about! So I’m not going to make any promises about being a better blogger from here on out. I’m a pretty straight forward person, so this is me, and this is what the internet and its dwellers will receive. Take what you need, leave what you don’t.
I thought I’d start with a little life update on the things I talked about in my first post and just all the good stuff going on in my little world. First things first, I did get the apartment and I moved in on August 1st (my birthday!). It was a pretty sweet birthday present that I have been thoroughly enjoying. I absolutely love this place. It’s hands down my favorite apartment I have lived in. My building is a renovated factory so I have beat up cement floors, gorgeous white brick walls and an exposed ceiling. When I left Nashville I sold or tossed the majority of my belongings, so I have slowly been buying things for my apartment since moving in. Of course I purchased the essentials right away, like a new bed, but decoration wise I have taken my time to find some cool second hand pieces. I’ve been to Target so many times though too, it’s ridiculous! It’s still a work in progress, but I’m pretty happy with it right now. It’s starting to feel cozy and like home, which is all I need. I’m planning on doing an apartment tour post to show you what it looks like and to talk about budget decorating. I’m quite the bargain shopper!
Still not really knowing what I’m doing with my life has not changed at all. We talk about starting and ending chapters of our lives, and moving back to Des Moines was definitely a new chapter for me. I’ve been back a couple months now and I feel like I’m just hanging between chapters though. I’m not really doing anything super significant, I’m not starting anything new, it sort of just feels like I’m doing things without any major goals in mind. Kind of, sort of. I don’t really know, it’s hard to put into words. I would love to have a more tangible goal in mind, but right now I don’t exactly know what I want to do, so there’s my issue. I’m not too worried about it though, I know it will all work out.
I suppose I’m in a period of regrouping and figuring out my next chapter, but I’m still at a point of searching for it. I’ve found that many creatives also feel this way, especially if they are creative in multiple areas. I have so many creative interests that sometimes I feel like I’m a jack of all trades, but a master of none. I would love to really dig into one creative area and be super passionate about it, but right now I wouldn’t even know what that would be. So I will continue to do a little bit of everything until I feel that spark to pursue something full force.
I’ve been super terrible with keeping up with pretty much everything lately. Blogging, Instagram, friends, health, creative projects, just everything. I’ve been slacking! Sometimes you just feel uninspired and unmotivated. That’s where I’ve been.
I know I make it sound like I’m being bump on a log, but I’ve actually been doing quite a bit. I started taking online classes again back in the spring and I’m working towards a bachelors in business and mass communication. I’ve never really been a school person so it’s not something I get super excited about doing, but it’s something I know will help me in the future so I’m determined to get that degree! I’ve also been doing photography, a little bit of design work, babysitting a couple times a week, housesitting like crazy (I’ve barely gotten to enjoy my new place), and a little bit of traveling too! I wish I could do more traveling, but I had and have some large expenses that were unexpected and these little things called bills that really suck but are necessary. After this month though I shouldn’t have any major expenses so I’ll be able to start saving again for my next adventure.
Speaking of those unexpected expenses, this summer I had to replace my camera which was a large chunk of change. I very embarrassingly fell backwards into a cement planter while trying to get a shot of a building. #photographerproblems #anythingfortheshot The shot was totally not worth what my new camera cost, but I did actually want to upgrade so that was just the little push I needed to bite the bullet and get that new camera. The other thing I have to bite the bullet and do is get a new computer. Blehhh. My 2012 MacBook pro started crashing back in the Spring every time I have more than one Adobe program open. It makes things very inconvenient for me since I need those programs for work, and has also made me put off doing a lot of things because I get so frustrated with this machine.
On to a more enjoyable topic though, I went to South Dakota last month! I took so many photos that I still have yet to look through and edit because of the infuriating computer mentioned above. I’ll be doing a blog post though for that trip with a bunch of photos as soon as I get that new computer. And I did go to Kansas City earlier in the summer and was planning on doing a whole post about it, but I didn’t end up taking many pictures or video, so I’ll just drop those here.
Something I started doing more of again since moving back is playing shows. I’ve done a handful of shows around Des Moines and I have a couple more coming up this year. My next one is October 25th as the Gas Lamp in Des Moines.
I do have some exciting things though coming up. The above mention Gas Lamp show as well as a few shows in December. You can follow my music pages to stay updated on dates/times for those shows (@wrenfione).
I have some pretty cool graphic design news that I will be sharing hopefully next week. This news also has inspired me to get back in to doing design work for myself this fall. I haven’t really done much all summer so I need to refresh my skills and just create to create.
I’ve also decided to start selling photography prints. I started setting up my store through the Darkroom platform. I currently only have two photos up, which I actually have printed and hung in my own place, but I will be adding more soon. You can take a peek at https://runacreativeco.darkroom.tech
A trip to the UK has been at the top of my bucket list for years so I’m going to be saving for that and starting to loosely plan the trip. I’d love to be able to go next year. Fingers crossed! If you’ve been and have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
I think I’ve covered quite a bit, this post feels so long haha If you’ve made it to the end, I commend you on a job well done. Hopefully I didn’t bore you too much with my rambling.
Until next time ( could be next week, could be next month!),
